The plane overshot the runway instead of landing because both pilots fell asleep

Both pilots of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET343 from Sudan to Ethiopia fell asleep during the flight and instead of landing on the runway, the plane was overshot.

According to private television "Geo News", the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 flight from Sudan to Ethiopia was supposed to end at Addis Ababa Airport, but instead of landing, the plane flew over it. When the plane reached Addis Ababa, the autopilot was on and both pilots were asleep. Air traffic control tried but failed to wake up the two pilots.

When the autopilot mode was turned off, an alarm sounded, waking both pilots, and the aircraft turned for a second landing attempt.

The data shows that when the jet first took off at the airport, its altitude was 37,000 feet. After the second attempt, they successfully landed the plane 25 minutes late.
